What is required to become a driving instructor?
- You must be over 21 and have held a full licence for 3 years
- Pass a Criminal Record Check
- Clean driving record with no significant motoring convictions
What skills does a driving instructor need?
- Patience and Calmness – essential when teaching a diverse range of individual new driving skills
- Communication – the ability to explain instructions, offer constructive feedback and ask questions clearly.
- Observation and details – identify potential hazards and manage risk when on the road
- Customer Service Skills – offering a high level of customer service to every pupil, build reputation and gain trust.
- Organisation – Effectively managing your schedule, your own diary and being on time for each pupil.
- Road Safety Knowledge – A comprehensive knowledge of our Highway Code, road rules, procedures, signs, and laws to ensure safe driving habits.
- Problem-Solving – To overcome challenges that arise teaching someone to drive on a daily basis
